The contract to construction management for the extensions of the line for the construction of the electrical supply facilities for ships in the ports of Palma and Ibiza has been awarded to GNGRUP.

The two tenders launched by the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands to build an infrastructure that allows the direct electrical connection to land for ships in the Botafoc docks of the port of Ibiza and in the commercial docks of the port of Palma de Mallorca add up to a total investment of almost 9 million euros. The amount of the tender for the project in the port of Ibiza is more than 6.1 million euros, while the budget for the one in Palma is more than 2.8 million euros.

This technique, known in English by the expression ‘cold ironing’, “constitutes an alternative for ships to keep their machinery stopped and, consequently, reduce the noise impact and air pollution while they are moored in the port”.
